Intermediate Class
Description
The Intermediate Chinese Language Class is designed for students who have at least two years of prior learning experience and are ready to further enhance their listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills in Mandarin. This course builds on foundational knowledge, introducing more complex vocabulary, sentence structures, and cultural concepts, allowing students to communicate with greater fluency and confidence.
Students will engage in interactive and practical learning activities, including:
- Role-playing exercises to improve spoken fluency in real-life situations
- Listening and comprehension activities using authentic Chinese audio and video materials
- Reading short articles, dialogues, and cultural texts to expand vocabulary and sentence structure knowledge
- Writing tasks focused on composing short paragraphs and messages using correct grammar and word choice
- Discussions and presentations to build confidence in expressing ideas and opinions in Mandarin
The topics covered in the first year of this class include:
- Travel and transportation – planning trips, booking tickets, and asking for directions
- Daily activities and routines – discussing schedules, habits, and personal interests
- Birthday celebrations – traditions, invitations, and gift-giving etiquette
- Giving and understanding directions – navigating cities, using landmarks, and asking for help
- Chinese New Year traditions – customs, greetings, and festive practices
- Chinese tea culture – history, types of tea, and the art of tea appreciation
